Is history and the study of it necessary?

To me, history is not a subject. You can't force yourself to study it,but you must appreciate and understand history.I picked up history because i want to know more about it and most important thing is that i want to pick up the skills thought in history like inference skills. History does increases our general knowledge, helping us understand events that happened in the past. Just like a majority of people,i feel that history is unnecessary. This opinion might have been raised due to the fact that we can hardly earn a living from studying history. There is very few carreer opportunities you can find after studying history. Even if one suits you,the pay is another problem as some of us may feel that they are not satisfied with the pay. Hence,this made us feel the unimportance of history in our society.Therefore, i also feel that studying history is unimportant.
